1,Proton-driven plasma wakefield acceleration, AWAKE at CERN
摘要:Plasma, the fourth state of matter can sustain very large electric fields due to its intrinsic property. This strong electric field can be harnessed for a much more efficient particle acceleration. Since its inception in 1979, plasma-based accelerators have achieved tremendous progress in the last three decades. Laser wakefield acceleration (LWFA) has routinely achieved GeV beam energy in centimeter long plasma channel. Electron beam driven plasma wakefield acceleration (PWFA) has successfully demonstrated the energy doubling of a 42 GeV SLC electron beam at SLAC and achieved the high efficiency acceleration for electrons and positrons, respectively. The new plasma-based acceleration experiment, so-called AWAKE at CERN is currently coming online and will be demonstrating the proton-driven plasma wakefield acceleration. In this talk, I will introduce the basic principles and the development of proton-driven plasma wakefield acceleration scheme. The current status of the AWAKE experiment at CERN and its future perspective will also be discussed.
2,An ultra-cold electron source at Manchester
摘要:A new scheme to produce an ultra-cold (mK level), high brightness electron beam from a magnetic-optical trap (MOT) is introduced. In this talk, I will review the latest development of an ac-MOT facility in the Photon Science Institute (PSI) of the University of Manchester. The working principles, latest results on the beam extraction and the future experiment based on this facility are also given.

夏國(guó)興博士,目前供職于英國(guó)曼徹斯特大學(xué)物理和天文學(xué)院和Cockcroft加速器科學(xué)研究所終身研究員。2003年在中國(guó)科學(xué)院近代物理研究所獲加速器物理和工程博士學(xué)位。2003-2005年在北京大學(xué)物理學(xué)院做博士后研究。2005年起在德國(guó)電子同步加速器研究所DESY做博士后研究,主要參與國(guó)際直線對(duì)撞機(jī)的研發(fā)并負(fù)責(zé)阻尼環(huán)的束流動(dòng)力學(xué)研究,期間因?yàn)楣ぷ鞒錾@得DESY的所長(zhǎng)研究獎(jiǎng)。2008年起在德國(guó)馬普物理研究所(Max Planck Institute for Physics)做研究科學(xué)家,領(lǐng)導(dǎo)先進(jìn)加速器加速器研究組 (包括質(zhì)子驅(qū)動(dòng)等離子體尾場(chǎng)加速和Muon子冷卻實(shí)驗(yàn)組)。
夏國(guó)興博士主要研究領(lǐng)域包括:基于超短超強(qiáng)激光脈沖和相對(duì)論帶電粒子束流驅(qū)動(dòng)的先進(jìn)等離子加速器,加速器束流動(dòng)力學(xué),先進(jìn)材料在加速器中的應(yīng)用和基于激光冷卻原子的超冷強(qiáng)流電子束等。夏博士是國(guó)際期刊Physical Review Letters, Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research A, Physical Review Accelerators and Beams 等的審稿人。
